SAMPLE DRILLS
FOOTWORK
JUMP ROPE:
With feet together jump with rope swinging forward. Then
repeat jumping with rope swinging
backwards.
PIVOT: With
legs apart shoulder width holding ball at chest area, practice
pivoting from left foot in full circle and then with right
foot.
CROSS-LEGS:
Shuffle up and down the court but instead of feet sliding next
to each other, cross right foot in front and then
behind.
RUNNING
BACK-UPS: Start with back facing opposite wall shuffle
backwards to one end of court.
BALL HANDLING
LEG CIRCLES: Stand with feet
together, make circles around your knees with the ball.
Circle first to your right and then reverse.
WAIST CIRCLES: Stand with feet
together, make circles around your waist with the ball to the
right and then left.
HEAD CIRCLES: Stand with feet
together, make circles around your head with the ball to the
right and then left.
CANDY CANES: Combining all
three of the above circles in a continuous motion.
DRIBBLING
RIGHT HAND DRIBBLE: With your right
hand dribble around cones set up on the floor.
LEFT HAND DRIBBLE: With your left
hand dribble around cones set up on the floor.
CIRCLE DRIBBLE: With knees bent and close
together, dribble with right hand around one side of legs
continously around.
CROSS OVER DRIBBLE: Dribble the ball
in front of you, bounce passing it from your left hand to your
right hand ongoing.
PASSING
CHEST
PASS: With two players facing each other, chest pass
between each other as they shuffle their feet.
BOUNCE PASS: Use the same drill as above except passing
from one player with one bounce on the floor between
them.
OVERHEAD PASS: This is done with two
hands over the players head throwing the ball in the direction
of the other.
SHOOTING
SHOOTING STANCE: Focus on
these points: Eye focus, positioning of feet, knees bent,
ball on tip of fingers one hand,
goose neck follow thru.
FLOOR SPINNERS: Players lay on
their back. Start with right hand. Arm
outstretched in front of you, toss the ball into
the air and catch it again, spinning the ball off your
fingertips. Repeat.
ONE-HANDED SHOOTING: Using one hand, shoot
the ball in the basket. Let the ball roll off your
fingertips as you push the
the ball in an arc.
